"...I was only ten years old when my mother (Sarah Harper McKee) died and I
cannot remember much about her but I think Sister Jennie (Mariah Jane) might
give something about her. Mother died May 14, 1867, Maggie was only two months
old but mother did not die from childbirth. She had a liver trouble which was
the cause of her death. I suppose her weakened condition had something to do
with it too. I remember seeing Dr. Dorwin cup her in the back. What a foolish
old time custom of remedy. She was 45 years old when she died. Father was left
with nine children..."

to WILLIAM BROWN March 22, 1849. To this marriage were born three sons and seven
daughters, her husband, three sons and two daughters having preceded her to the

She died February 14, 1908, aged 77 years, 9 months and 3 days.
Her father, Alexander Horner, was a leading member for many years in the
Presbyterian Church at Gettysburg, Ohio, and his children were baptized in that
faith. In after years she moved her membership to the Christian Church at the
Beech. She returned to Gettysburg where she was a regular attendant at the

Mrs. Brown was a strong Christian woman. Besides caring for her own large family
her great loving heart took into her home two little motherless children - Miss

motherly love.
The services were held at the Presbyterian Church Monday afternoon at two
