"...I was only ten years old when my mother (Sarah Harper McKee) died and I cannot remember much about her but I think Sister Jennie (Marriah Jane) might give something about her. Mother died May 14, 1867, Maggie was only two months old but mother did not die from childbirth. She had a liver trouble which was the cause of her death. I suppose her weakened condition had something to do with it too. I remember seeing Dr. Dorwin cup her in the back. What a foolish old time custom of remedy. She was 45 years old when she died. Father was left with nine children..."

Some time around 1866, James T. McKee, who was then about 21 years of age, left Darke County, Ohio and moved to Clinton, Henry County, Missouri. Whether his father moved there with him the records do not state, but his father was not living in Darke County, Ohio in 1860 according to the census records.
James T. McKee took up the profession of teaching when 21 years of age and taught school one year after coming to Henry County, Missouri.
In July 1868, he was made deputy Post-master of Clinton and held that position till 1872.
In July 1871, while still in office, he established his book business which he conducted in connection with his official duties till 1872.
In 1877, he established a branch store in McLanesboro, Illinois under the firm name of J.T. McKee & Company.
In 1882, he established another branch store in Murphysboro, Il under the firm name of McKee brothers.
Mr. McKee was married on April 10, 1873 to Mary Ricketts a native of Ohio. In 1886, they had three children: Ralph Harper, Inex Letitia, and Charles Romney.

To mourn Mr Cummings' loss is his wife Mrs Emma Cummings (sister fo Bruce & Elmer McKee) and three children, his mother Mrs. Cummings, one sister Mrs Robert Steele, and one brother Will Cummings.
Henry Cummings was born in Pittsburg, PA, Aug 26, 1845 and came to Kansas in 1857. In December 1887 he and Miss Emma McKee were united in marriage.
Mr Cummings was a man of good moral character. He owned at the time of his death about 800 acres of land, well improved and well stocked.

MCKEE - LOGSDEN
At high noon Wednesday (6 Mar 1895) a quiet wedding took place at the home of Mr & Mrs William Logsden, a short distance northwest of the city, in which the contracting parties were Mr Elmer U McKee and Miss Viola Logsden. Rev HT Davis of the Methodist Episcopal Church pronouncing the impressive words which made them husband and wife.
The bride was pretty gowned in a light gray Henrietta, square yoke of white silk with lace garniture; she wore a corsage bouquet of lilies of the valley, and the same beautiful flowers in her hair. The groom was attired in convention black.
Mr McKee is one of Richland's prominent and popular young business men, having been actively ingaged in the hardware and implement business in Richland for a number of years and a member of the firm of Farnsworth & McKee. The bride is one of Richland's , most charming, cultered and talented young women, daughter of Mr & Mrs William Logsden. The young couple have blossomed into manhood and womanhood in richland and enjoy the esteem and well wished of a large circle of admiring friends.
Only the immediate relatives and friends of the contracting parties witnessed the ceremony. Those present were; RU Farnsowth and wife, Rev HT Davis and wife, Henry Cummings and wife of Belvoir, Geo. Saxton, Bruce McKee, James O;Sullivan, and Miss Ida Zirkle.
After the ceremony congratulations were extended, followed by a sumptious dinner. Many handsome and costly presents were received.
Mr and Mrs McKee departed during the afternoon for their new home - the residence lately vacated by JC Burton.
