GENERAL AFFIDAVIT
March 20, 1919
The following is testimony given by Jerry M. Standerfer to H. N.
Nicholson, a special examiner of the Bureau of Pensions.
The purpose is to declare the number of marriages of James and also to
declare that
Nancy (the claimant) has remained unmarried since his death in 1913.
I am 41 years old. Farmer. P.O. Hartshorne, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma.
My father was James S. Standefer and this claimant, Nancy Standefer is my step-mother. My mother was Eliza Jane Standefer nee Bonham.
My father was never married but
twice. His first wife was my mother.
My mother died at Prescott, Nevada County, Arkansas, October 1, 1886.
I was at home when she died and was at her funeral. Yes, I am sure
that is the date of her death for I was there when she died.
My parents were married as I understand at Sullivan, Illinois . They were both born and raised there and grew up neighbors.
Yes, I think I would have known or heard of it if father had been married before he married my mother. After Mother died, he Father did not marry until he married this claimant who was then the Nancy Flours. It was over six years after Mother died before Father married. I was not there when they were married. I only know that she claimed to be a wido but I do not now anything about her husband. After she and Father were married they lived together until he died and were living together when he died. I was there when he died and he died August 22, 1913, about twelve miles from Hartshorne.
I attended his funeral and have lived close to her ever since Father died and I know that she has not remarried.
When my Mother died I was the oldest one at home as my father and oldest brother were away from home at work when she died and did not get home until next day after she was burrried and I lived at home with Father until after he remarried to this claimant and know that he died not remarry.
